A group of six men appeared at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court facing charges related to the murder of Kaizer Chiefs Football Club’s player, Luke Fleurs.

The 6 hijacked Fleurs while he was at a garage on 3 April

A group of six men appeared at the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court facing charges related to the murder of Kaizer Chiefs Football Club’s player, Luke Fleurs.

Ndumiso Moswane (26), Fernando Sive (25), Nhlakanipho Dlamini (21), Franky Xaba (25), Maredi Mphahlele (36) and Thembinkosi Hlomikhawu (31), were all arrested in Slovoville on 10 April 2024, when members of Provincial Investigating Unit of the South African Police Service followed information about the whereabouts of Fleurs’ vehicle that was hijacked in Honeydew, on 3 April 2024.

Fleurs had remained in the car with one other occupant

Fleurs was at a filling station with three of his friends when he was allegedly approached by two males armed with firearms. The duo had alighted from a BMW and they approached Fleurs while his friends were inside the shop at the filling station.

The football family is mourning breaking news circulated that Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs passed away after he was gunned down on Wednesday in a botched robbery in Gauteng.

“They removed Fleurs and another occupant from his vehicle and immediately occupied the vehicle. As they were driving off, Fleurs tried to grab the door and one of the alleged hijackers then fired at him.

Fleurs’ killers back in court 19 April

“The six were charged with murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of firearms, possession of ammunition and defeating the ends of justice. The case was postponed to 19 April 2024, for the accused to apply for legal representation with Legal Aid South Africa and investigations for the bail hearing,” said Phindi Mjonondwane, the National Prosecution Authority’s Gauteng Division spokesperson.
