Maximising your effectiveness – By Dr Ted Msipa

Money is Important

I believe without a shadow of doubt that money is a vital component of this life as we know it. The importance of money is even highlighted in the Holy Bible. It submits that money answers all things from the trivial to the most significant.  The late Zig Ziglar says money is so important, such that after oxygen, it has to be money in the next strata of importance.

Money thrives on scarcity

There is no sphere on earth where money is not important, it is needed in churches, hospitals, shrines, shops and schools. Money drives literally every facet of life. Sadly money gets its power not only from its acceptability and portability but from its scarcity. Since money is scarce, it means that it was created with scarcity in mind. The moment you will choose to introduce a lot of money into the economy monetary authorities will restrict you or caution you, stating that you will cause economic disequilibrium. It is not my intention to probe the monetary dynamics and look at money supply and monetary policy. Although I may visit that domain in the future.

The big Picture of Money

My point of departure is on money being a tool of usage, man being its steward and God being the owner of all things. All things includes money and I dare charge you that God owns it all. This is the reason why you are not going to be buried in your Ferrari. The rule of the game is you use it here and leave it here. So money is actually a tool of both comfort and convenience. It is not a product needed for itself but for the access it offers us. We can safely agree that money is a means to an end.

You are a Steward

Forgiveness is key to happiness- By Dr Ted Msipa

The more I read my favourite book, the more the concept of stewardship keeps hitting me hard. Stewardship simply means you take care of something on behalf of the owner, yet your allegiance and responsibility should be towards the owner. As a person you are a steward of many things God has entrusted you with, these include money, family and other relationships.

Owners have ultimate rights

As a Christian man, I believe God owns it all. Based on this persuasion, I can conclude that God has the right to whatever he wants, whenever he wants it and my role is that of a steward. By virtue of my office, I will receive benefits as I meet my responsibilities, yet one thing is clear, God is the owner who owns it all. The owner has full rights but the steward has responsibilities.

Purchases are spiritual decisions

It is important that as a steward, the owner deems you as fit for purpose. This is why money flows to some people and yet flows away from others. I believe your level of responsibility is shown on your purchase decisions more than anything else. Although it is not apparent to many, every purchasing decision is a spiritual decision. When I look at your bank statement, I can clearly see your key priorities. I can honestly write your story from it. Your statement reveals all you believe about your stewardship. Your statement reflects your goals, priorities, convictions and relationships. Even your time is a true reflection of your priorities.

Promotion is on merit

God is not a careless father who wastes resources, one of the key considerations He makes is your ability to handle a certain level of blessing or prosperity. That is why Jesus taught the story of the talents (which by the way were a currency) One got five talents, the other got two talents and finally the last one got a single talent. According to experts one talent of refined gold was worth USD2, 555,170.00 as of the year 2020. Its serious money which was being dispensed right there. My key point is that these people were not given according to what they wanted but according to how they had developed their ability to master money. Interestingly their results showed that God’s meritocracy system was correct.

Conclusion

Let us make it clear folks, money is neither good nor bad. Money is neutral and it takes the character of the person who is having it. So money is not evil, but the love of money to the point of idolizing it is what is evil. God has no problem with you having money but He has a problem with money having you. Money is a good servant but a very terrible master. Grow you capacity to handle money and God will increase the money he can trust you with. Christ remains the ultimate leader. Follow Him and many will follow you. The Next level is becoming a reality.
