Golf tournament meant to raise funds for Higherlife Foundation

MASERU, Lesotho – Lesotho’s leading digital services provider, Econet Telecom Lesotho, on Friday hosted its sixth Annual Econet Golf Day tournament.

Although the exact amount could not be established by the time of publishing on Friday evening, the tournament had raised close to M500 000 for Econet’s flagship social impact organisation, Higherlife Foundation.

Higherlife Foundation invests in human capital to build thriving individuals, communities and sustainable livelihoods. Founded by Strive and Tsitsi Masiyiwa in 1996 out of their deep Christian faith, heartfelt compassion as well as their personal experiences of orphan-hood, the social impact arm boasts on being “contemporary Africans moving the African continent forward through opportunities”.

Golf tournament brought people from different walks of life together

And the golf tournament, held at the Maseru Club Golf Course, drew together avid golfers, leading corporates, and community leaders in a shared commitment to support this meaningful cause.

It was designed to merge sport with social responsibility, showcasing the unwavering dedication of Econet Telecom Lesotho to make a tangible difference in the communities it serves. Through a day filled with solidarity and competitive spirit, participants and sponsors alike demonstrated their commitment to driving positive change.

Econet thrilled by stakeholder support for golf tournament

Econet Telecom Lesotho CEO, Dennies Plaatjies, said they were happy with the support that they received from participants and sponsors alike.

“We are thrilled by the overwhelming support and generosity shown by our participants and sponsors in our endeavour to continue to make a meaningful impact across communities in Lesotho through Econet’s Higherlife Foundation,” Plaatjies said.

“The success of this tournament underscores our collective commitment to addressing critical social issues and empowering communities for a brighter future.”

The funds raised through the tournament will directly benefit over 400 Higherlife Foundation Lesotho beneficiaries by channeling resources towards initiatives that address pressing societal challenges. From educational to social programmes, Higherlife Foundation Lesotho remains steadfast in its mission to create lasting, positive change across the Mountain Kingdom.

And Plaatjies added: “We believe in the power of collaboration and community-driven action to drive meaningful change”.

“The Foundation’s focus has been on the following four key pillars: Education Support,

Leadership and Lifelong Development, Institutions (Children’s Homes), and Additional Opportunities for Higherlife Foundation Fellows,” the statement said.

The Friday tournament was won by the team of Muth Kimanzi, Moeketsi Tiea, Charles Mokunya, and Hopolang Letsunyane who each walked away with golf bags after scoring 100 points.
