Maseru, Lesotho – Lets’eng Mine has demonstrated its commitment to education and skills development in the diamond mining sector by awarding educational scholarships to deserving Basotho individuals across four categories.


The scholarships, aimed at students currently pursuing or interested in tertiary qualifications related to the development of the country’s mineral resources, signify Lets’eng Mine’s dedication to fostering critical skills and expertise within the mining industry.


The awards ceremony honored graduating scholarship recipients, comprising six students, alongside one continuing scholarship recipient pursuing a Diploma in Millwright. Among the recipients were four new scholars, while two meritorious scholars received special recognition.

Thinyane Motooane, Chief Executive Officer of Lets’eng Mine, congratulated the scholars, emphasizing the importance of celebrating academic achievement. He underscored Let’seng Mine’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) in providing educational scholarships to deserving individuals.


“The scholarships are not exclusive but are awarded to every deserving individual. Our engagement in the mining sector obligates us to create educational opportunities and develop skills within the industry,” Motooane remarked. He highlighted the internship opportunities provided to scholarship recipients, aimed at enhancing their marketability in their respective professions.


Since its establishment in 2006, the scholarship program has invested M17 million in Basotho students nationwide as part of its CSR efforts.


Addressing the audience at the awards ceremony, Relebohile Lebeta, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources, commended Lets’eng for its scholarship program and dedication to upskilling Lesotho’s talent pool. She stressed the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility across all sectors of the economy.


“These educational initiatives signify a commitment to capacity building and the creation of a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and progress in the mining sector and beyond,” Lebeta asserted. She urged mining companies to prioritize CSR efforts, emphasizing the importance of sustainable mining practices, environmental protection, and community engagement.


Lebeta concluded by congratulating the scholars, noting that their dedication and hard work not only culminate in receiving scholarships but also position them as future leaders contributing to Lesotho’s prosperity.
