MASERU, Lesotho – The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA) on Tuesday held the LHDA Stakeholder Conference at the Manthabiseng Convention Centre in Maseru.

The stakeholder conference is being followed by the authority’s 10-year strategy launch at the same venue on Wednesday.

Stakeholder conference a platform to open engagement with all stakeholders

In a statement prior to the conference, the authority said it used the stakeholder conference was a platform where it opened engagement with all key stakeholders of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP) to share information on the history, recent developments, progress on ongoing works, as well as lessons learnt during the implementation of the project.

Stakeholder conference key for gathering feedback

“Further, it is a crucial platform for receiving feedback from direct beneficiaries of the project, the communities where the project operates, that have been directly and indirectly impacted by the project, as well as authorities, and key partners in the project. It is an opportunity to hear thoughts, collect insights and accountability for the LHDA,” the authority said.

This year’s edition of the conference held particular significance as the LHDA was set to launch its new strategic direction on Wednesday.

The new LHDA strategy was an important commitment and plan by the LHDA to amplify those areas of our work that have for a long time flown under the radar and ensure direct and intentional beneficiation for Basotho and Lesotho, from the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. The unveiling marked a bold and ambitious commitment that the LHDA is making public for the first time, the authority said.

Stakeholder conference, 10-year strategy came at an opportune time

“We are excited to share our vision for the next decade of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project,” said Tente Tente, the Chief Executive of the LHDA. “This strategy represents our unwavering commitment to enhancing water security, promoting socio-economic development, and fostering regional cooperation.”

The Stakeholder Conference and 10-Year Strategy launch come at a crucial inflection point for the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, when Phase II implementation is roaring ahead, and with it comes the expectations, demands and commitments to what the project can deliver for Lesotho the authority said.
