ABUJA, Nigeria — The Mastercard Foundation, in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria, is set to host its inaugural EdTech Conference from July 8 to 10, 2024. The conference, organised by the Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning, will take place at the Hilton Transcorp in Abuja, Nigeria.

Aligned with the African Union’s Year of Education, the 2024 Mastercard Foundation EdTech Conference is themed “Education Technology for Resilient and Inclusive Learning in Africa.” Participants will engage in discussions about the current state of the EdTech ecosystem, emerging trends, and the role of technology in addressing educational challenges across the continent. Policymakers, investors, data scientists, philanthropists, and young innovators will come together to accelerate progress toward digitally-enabled educational platforms that promote inclusive learning.

Reeta Roy, President and Chief Executive Officer at the Mastercard Foundation, emphasised the power of technology: “Across Africa, young innovators and entrepreneurs are bringing new energy and ideas to the education sector”.

“Some of these innovations have the potential to transform ecosystems and shape the future for many.”

The conference will provide a platform for EdTech ecosystem stakeholders to share practical solutions that enhance access to quality, relevant, and inclusive education in Africa. Joseph Nsengimana, Director for the Mastercard Foundation Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning, highlighted the opportunity for home-grown solutions to bridge access and learning gaps: “This conference is an opportunity to reflect on what is working and align on the actions needed to take African EdTech to the next level of impact.”
