Mxolisi Mgojo calls for unity, collaboration

Nomazulu Moyo

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – Mxolisi Mgojo, the president of the Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), has urged South Africans to unite in the post-election period.

Mgojo said this during his speech at a Big 5 Construct event at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand on Tuesday.

While addressing a diverse audience of industry leaders and stakeholders, Mgojo said there was need for unity and collaboration in the wake of recent elections that failed to produce a clear majority mandate.

“In these uncertain times, it is imperative that we come together as a nation,” Mgojo said.

“The results of the recent elections highlight the importance of forming coalitions to establish a new government that prioritises the interests of all South Africans.”

Acknowledging the challenges faced during the elections, Mgojo commended the Electoral Commission of South Africa for successfully managing a free and fair election process. He urged all parties to acknowledge and support the outcome, emphasising the value of inclusive economic growth, the rule of law, and market-friendly policies.

“The electorate has spoken, signaling a desire for policies that promote inclusive economic growth and uphold constitutional principles. It is now incumbent upon us to set aside political differences and work collaboratively for the greater good of our nation.”

Highlighting the importance of the construction sector in driving economic development, Mgojo underscored the need for a conducive business environment that fosters growth and job creation. He emphasised the role of infrastructure and suitable business premises in supporting the sector’s operations effectively.

“Our sector has the potential to create jobs, provide training, and contribute to improving living conditions. But to realise this potential, we must advocate for suitable policies and regulations that support sustainable business practices.”

Mgojo also called attention to the responsibility of businesses in protecting and preserving physical infrastructure, urging collaboration between industry players and communities to safeguard critical assets.

“We must recognise the importance of partnerships, particularly between large and small companies, in driving sustainable transformation and growth,” he said.

“Transformation and growth are interconnected, and we must ensure that our efforts are both inclusive and sustainable.”

In conclusion, Mgojo reaffirmed BUSA’s dedication to sustainable growth and development in South Africa. He called for continued collaboration between business, government, and other social partners to tackle the socio-economic challenges facing the country.

“As evidenced by our successful partnerships in energy, logistics, and combating corruption, collaboration yields positive results,” Mgojo concluded. “Together, we can overcome challenges and build a prosperous future for all South Africans.”
