Gesture a fulfillment of Navy chief’s 2023 pledge

PRETORIA, South Africa – In a heartwarming act of charity, Vice Admiral Monde Lobese, the Chief of the South African Navy, on Thursday made a significant contribution to the Mamelodi Old Age Home by donating 56 beds to the facility.
The non-profit organisation provides shelter and care for at least 56 senior citizens aged 60 and above.
Donation a part of an ongoing commitment by the Navy
The donation was part of the navy’s ongoing commitment to community service and support for vulnerable groups. The Mamelodi Old Age Home offers comprehensive residential services, including nursing, medical care, meals, and cleaning, and is largely dependent on donations to continue its vital work.
The SA Navy Spouses Forum initially identified the needs of the home during their Mandela Day initiative in 2023. Upon learning about the challenges faced by the center, Vice Admiral Lobese pledged to assist and has now fulfilled that promise.

During his address to the residents, Vice Admiral Lobese quoted Nelson Mandela, saying, “Last year I promised that we will return to make your lives better, as Tata Madiba said, ‘What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead’.”
Vice Admiral Lobese also expressed his gratitude to all the contributors who made the donation possible. The donations were financed through funds raised through the Chief of SA Navy Charity Golf Day, an event that fosters collaboration with stakeholders on legacy projects that benefit the community.
The gesture provided the much-needed resources for the Mamelodi Old Age Home and also served as a shining example of the Navy’s dedication to social responsibility and making a positive impact on society.
