STANDARD Lesotho Bank has launched the FutureFlex Account, an account tailored for youths to cultivate financial habits that aid their financial wellness.

The bank this week said a significant percentage of Basotho were not financially savvy, and Standard Lesotho Bank intended to capacitate the youth to become economical and develop the right financial habits from a young age.

“The Bank aims to achieve this through their Youth Value Proposition (YVP) that includes the new FutureFlex Account for youth, through financial wellness, and professional masterclasses among others,” the bank said in a statement this week.

“Standard Lesotho Bank’s plan is to enable the youth to become financially astute to build their future today and make it easy for them to access the internet, which is critical for learning and building social capital, thus the need for this solution.”

The FutureFlex Account for Youth boasts unique features and benefits to its young holders, such as:

  • Free Data (Vodacom and ETL)
  • Free POS transactions
  • Free ATM withdrawals
  • Free Internet banking/mobile banking transfers
  • Free monthly bill payments
  • New youth debit card
  • Savings Account

“Standard Lesotho Bank has consistently been engaging with Youth and supporting their initiatives over the years, in projects such as the Bacha Entrepreneurship Project, The Bursary Fund, and The National Career Expo which reached over ten thousand high school students in 2023 alone! By opening this account, with the Bank that has a lifestyle relevance, the Youth stand a chance to win a share of M20,000 and a Trolley Dash worth M3,000 if they use their card to do POS transactions. Those who will participate in the Standard Lesotho Bank Youth Day, on Wednesday at the ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre, where a National Youth Dialogue comprising of Tertiary Institutions will carry out the topic: ‘How can Lesotho transition from being an import dependent economy to a self-sufficient one’ stand to win a share of a whopping M100,000 for themselves and their tertiary institution.

“This account is solely targeted at youth between the ages of 16 and 27 who aspire to build a better future, who want to succeed at school or in starting and running their startup-businesses, who need development opportunities, corporate exposure, and dream to build successful career paths. The youth have an array of needs including financial education, career advice and exposure to the world of work, development opportunities, internships, emanating from the challenges of a high unemployment rate and lack of financial management skills; and these needs have been consciously catered for in the FutureFlex Youth account, and its complimentary services.

Standard Lesotho Bank aspires to build future adults with robust financial management skills, competent professionals and businesspersons that contribute into the economy and growth of Lesotho, the bank said.
